Brown Mamas will host a public workshop in August to discuss housing in Pittsburgh.

The workshop will run from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at IBEW Local Union #5, located at 5 Hot Metal Street. The event will begin at 5 p.m. with refreshments and a formal exercise beginning at 5:45 p.m.

The workshop will discuss how Pittsburgh has a surplus of 19,000 housing units, but more than 4,000 are indefinitely vacant. Discussion will include how the city has so many houses sitting vacant, while many people are desperately searching for a safe, affordable place to live.

PGH2050 is asking participants to also weigh in on which urgent priorities need to be addressed for the future of Pittsburgh - what must change and which big actions to which the city should commit.
